TomTom and British Automobile Association to provide real-time traffic data

Article by Christian Andrei, on January 25, 2012

TomTom has entered into a partnership with the British Automobile Association (the AA), which provides the most accurate real-time traffic data for the AA's Traffic News website. With the pact, the AA website will now have the TomTom HD Traffic data, which provides a real-time view of road conditions as well as areas of congestion.

In this way, people can have a better plan for their trips. TomTom HD Traffic releases a picture of the traffic conditions as they progress. It contains data from multiple sources such as connected navigation devices, road sensors, real-time incident data and mobile phones. TomTom merges this anonymous data to create real-time traffic products utilizing tested and proprietary strategies.

AA's customers can enjoy the per-minute updating of information, allowing them to constantly be on top of the latest road conditions before they travel. TomTom HD Traffic offers comprehensive coverage all over the United Kingdom.

Charles Cautley, Managing Director of TomTom Automotive and Licensing, commented that with the HD Traffic, the AA will have peace of mind knowing that its users can accurately plan their trips and be fully aware of the most up-to-date conditions on their routes. With its partnership with the AA, TomTom is "making it possible to more efficiently" utilize the road network as well as lessen traffic congestion in the nation, Cautley added.

Steve Wing of the AA stated that they are focused on aiding drivers prepare for their trips by utilizing the most up-to-date traffic data available, making sure that they are not caught by surprise with significant congestion or traffic incidents. He added that by equipping drivers with TomTom HD Traffic, they can have "a more positive" driving experience and "a faster and safer journey."
