Major revisions on the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette include high-performance tires and racing-style wheels for the Z06 and ZR1 models, according to leaked information posted at several Corvette fan sites.
Chevrolet is expected to provide the official details about the 2012 Corvette at this weekend’s annual C5/C6 Bash fan event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky. Chevrolet said that the 2012 Corvette will have a Centennial Edition package, which is offered on all the trim levels.
Only a black exterior is available for this car. It’s apparent that this would be the only black to appear on the Corvette color palate for 2012, according to ordering information given by Montana Chevy dealer Ken Fitchner at corvetteforum.com.
It means that Chevrolet is taking efforts to make it easy for these Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes to be equipped so that they become useful at track and club events. A set of high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires is considered as the key option.
The Porsche GT3 RS and the BMW M3 use this high-grip, racing-style summer tire as original equipment. The Michelin tires will cover the lightweight racing-style wheels. The buyer will be required to order the optional handling package for either the Z06 or the ZR1 if they want to buy the wheel-and-tire package.
Each 2012 Corvette model will feature a new steering wheel and seat design. The seats will come with larger bolsters on the back seat and cushion areas to give improved driver support, particularly in high-performance driving while staying comfortable for everyday street driving. There are optional microfiber suede seat inserts that improve tactile feel and add more support.
The new seats are matched with a revised steering wheel with model-specific badges, smooth switch trimming and wrapped spokes. The 2012 models will also include padded armrests and center console. There is an added visual touch inside with contrasting color stitching in red, yellow and blue, which comes with a custom-leather-wrapped interior.
In addition, a new Bose uplevel audio system will be available in 2012, including nine speakers (only seven in 2011) for enhanced audio quality accurately tuned to the acoustics of the cabin. New tweeters in the instrument panel plus enhanced Bose next-generation bass performance are the key benefits received by Corvette drivers.
The latest Technology Package (2LT trim level) combines most of the popular infotainment features of Corvette and lets them be accessible for more models. The equipment consists of Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity, Bose premium audio system, head-up display, navigation radio and a USB port.
To complete the new 2012 features, customers will be able to choose brake caliper colors to personalize their Corvette even more. These calipers are available in silver, gray, yellow or red.
