Vauxhall presents 4th generation hydrogen fuel cell automobile—HydroGen4

Article by Christian A., on January 19, 2012

Vauxhall introduces the "HydroGen4" -- its 4th generation hydrogen fuel cell automobile -- at the UK H2Mobility launch event in London. The event brings together industry stakeholders, which included the automaker, under government lead, to look into and develop clean hydrogen fuel cell mobility in the UK. Vauxhall takes pride in being at the vanguard of hydrogen fuel cell technology development.

It continues to study the potential of all alternative propulsion technologies. Moreover, the automaker is considered a forward-thinking and environmentally responsible company with more than 100 years of heritage in Britain.

Hydrogen fuel cell automobiles integrate the benefits of electric propulsion, with the convenience of fast fuelling and long range. These play a vital role in the alternative propulsion portfolio of Vauxhall.

For more than 10 years, GM/Vauxhall has been investing in research and development of hydrogen fuel cell technologies for over a decade. Vauxhall expects the technology to be ready for market launch by 2016, supported by a wide-ranging test fleet in Europe and the US with more than 100 fuel cell vehicles logging about 2 million miles since 2008.

After the company's long-time focus on hydrogen fuel cell technology development, the launch and successful roll-out of the automobiles will depend on the availability of consumer hydrogen in a real life scenario, commented Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall Motors' Director for Government Affairs and Public Policy.

He added that they "greatly appreciate" the "timely" initiative of gathering various stakeholders under government lead to establish an adequate strategy for the future development of hydrogen in the UK.
