Volkswagen announces new finance offer for the California

Article by Christian Andrei, on February 22, 2012

Volkswagen has announced a finance offer for its campervan – the new Volkswagen California – that’s available only until March 31. VW is offering free servicing for three years or 30,000 miles (whichever comes first) at only £379 a month with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Solutions (PCP). Its hire purchase rates start at 3.99%.

VW is actually the only automotive manufacturer to make its own camper. Similar to the iconic models from its heritage, the current California has a compact size to make it a practical choice for daily driving but it could turn into a camper within minutes due to a pop-up roof, two double beds, window blinds and its own fold-away chairs and table discreetly stored in the rear tailgate and side door.

Up to 7 people can be seated inside the new California Beach. Its front seats can swivel to face the rear to form a cozy lounge. Buyers can choose from two of Volkswagen’s refined common rail 2.0-litre TDI engines, that offer 140 PS. For more efficiency, VW offers a 114 PS BlueMotion Technology model with a starting price of £34,970.

Furthermore, the California range comes with an SE model with extra equipment like a wardrobe and kitchen complete with sink, fridge and onboard tanks for fresh and waste water. The California SE has a starting price of £43,575 and it is offered with 140 PS or 180 PS engines, manual and DSG transmissions, and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

Customers could avail of the new generation Volkswagen California campervan in two trim levels: Beach and Ocean. Three 2.0-liter TDI engines are also available: a 102 PS, a 150 PS and a 204 PS. Already EU6 compliant, all of these TDI engines utilize BlueMotion Technology that allows them to consume diesel and emit carbon dioxide by up to 15 percent lower.

Customers availing of the VW California with the 150 PS or 204 PS TDI engines could avail of a 4MOTION four-wheel drive system.

The California Beach serves as the entry-level model to the VW’s campervan range. It is available with a 102 PS 2.0-liter TDI engine mated with a five-speed manual transmission, or a 150 PS 2.0-liter TDI paired either to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG gearbox. It is roomy enough to seat seven people and it offers sleeping space for four.

A two-berth bed could be converted from the vehicle’s bench-seat, with the manual pop-up roof allowing access to a double bed. It also comes with s a fold-out table and chairs stored in the sliding door and tailgate. As soon as the customers settle in for a camp, they could make of the campervan’s integrated awning.

On the other hand, the California Ocean -- replacing the SE model of the previous generation – is available with either 150 PS or 204 PS 2.0-liter TDI engines mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed transmission. Available at a starting price of £47,840 (RRP OTR including VAT), the California Ocean offers an electro-hydraulic pop-up roof with lighting, as well as a kitchenette with two rings, a refrigerator and sink. The California Ocean could be availed with 4MOTION four-wheel drive systems.

The latest generation of the VW California comes loaded with an array of safety and comfort features, as well as convenience features like Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Brake Assist and Driver Alert System as standard. Optional features include Adaptive Cruise Control, City Emergency Braking and Front Assist. Offered as optional on the Beach and standard on the Ocean is a new ‘premium’ dashboard with wide center console and car-like feel.

This dashboard comes with the latest infotainment system, a new multi-function display DAB digital radio and Bluetooth. Moreover, the VW California is provided with new fabrics, leathers and plastics as well as a new cupholder.
