Volkswagen Passat will get more expensive for the 2013MY

Article by Christian A., on August 1, 2012

Volkswagen is bent on offering a midsize sedan that’s focused on the American market. It has modified its 2013 Passat, which will be produced in the U.S. Its base price is higher by $850. The SEL trim models are equipped with rear-view camera as standard. Increasingly more cars each year have been offering this safety and convenience feature.

The 2013 model will also be getting cup holders in its center console that could fit drinks in various containers and sizes. This console will also feature rear seat air vents and a modified front stowage area.

2012 Passat had undergone major modifications to make it more appealing to U.S. consumers. The risks paid off as the model has been very successful. While VW isn’t convinced that this model could outperform cars such as the Toyota Camry, it is optimistic that these revisions will help its status.

Volkswagen Passat boasts balanced proportions that lend it a timeless, unique, and dominant styling. This reflects Volkswagen’s new design DNA, which was developed by Volkswagen’s design chief, Walter de Silva, and the VW Brand design leader, Klaus Bischoff.

This design has a signature clean look, with predominant horizontal body elements, and it reinforces the VW Passat’s being the sophisticated choice among other models in the mid-size segment. However, this car looks pricier than it actually is.

A strong brand’s key identifying feature is its front end styling. And this is true for the Volkswagen Passat, with its new horizontal brand face that features a 3-blade grille and headlights that together form a single unit. The grille is sculpted in 3-dimensional shape, and it stands more upright as well as makes a more elegant and distinctive impression in a stricter geometry. You can find a larger and lower intake with honeycomb surface beneath the front bumper, while available corner-illuminating foglights are housed at each end.

Meanwhile, from the VW Passat’s side profile, its muscular ridge found in the sill area produces a lively and beautiful interplay of light reflections. On the other hand, powerfully sculpted wheel arches highlight the car’s dynamic properties. And to emphasize its aerodynamic styling, its roof lines flow toward its back with an almost coupe-like cut of its rear window. Additionally, three side windows with a long and extended glass surface create luxury-class style.
