Volvo Trucks to unveil new FM on March 19 in Europe

Article by Anita Panait, on March 8, 2013

Volvo Trucks is launching the newest member of its product range, the Volvo FM, on March 19, 2013. The Volvo FM features the ground-breaking Volvo Dynamic Steering. Although the official launch is still on the 19th, the Volvo FM can already be seen on public roads as part of a contest to be the first person to see the newest Volvo truck.

Volvo Trucks has launched from Spain two unmasked Volvo FM trucks onto the roads across Europe. For two weeks, the Volvo FM trucks will travel on separate routes and roam European roads, waiting for the first spotters to see them.

The trucks carry distinctive stripes that help them to be easily recognizable from other vehicles, helping would-be spotters to spot them. Jeff Bird, Director Press tests at Volvo Trucks and the project leader of the competition, said that they want the public to send them the first snapshots of the new Volvo FM truck. They will publish the sent images on a dedicated web site with the winners to be invited to an exclusive test drive in Gothenburg.

Claes Nilsson, President of Volvo Trucks, said that the new Volvo FM will provide drivers with a new level of handling and an innovative cab environment. He added that Transport companies will have an efficient truck with increased flexibility.

The trucks will be installed with Volvo Dynamic Steering, combining an electronically-regulated electric motor fitted to the steering gear and a conventional hydraulic power steering system. The system provides the driver effortless steering at low speeds and stability on high speeds.
