Set to go on sale in the first quarter of 2012 is Volvo’s 2012 C70 Inscription package that retails for $3,900. A modified version of Volvo's C70 hardtop convertible, the C70 Inscription features additional horsepower and torque as well as distinctive interior and exterior details. The C70 Inscription will be exclusively offered in the North American market. It provides performance tuning to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
This tuning package is the creation of Polestar, a Swedish racing and performance products firm, in partnership with Volvo Cars. Several methods were utilized to boost the engine’s output. The performance gains were a result of more air and fuel being funneled into the combustion chambers. In addition, its spark timing is advanced.
The turbocharged inline 5-cylinder engine is capable of producing 250hp at 5,500 rpm and 273 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. The front wheels receive seamless power via a 5-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.
The added features for the Inscription package include new features on the C70, such as a set of 18-inch black Midir wheels with polished rims and spokes, a black grille surrounded by chrome, Sovereign Hide upholstery, a leather-covered dashboard, and Inscription floor mats, hand brake lever and front headrests. Only two colors are available. Consumers can choose between Ice White and Black Sapphire Metallic.

Volvo' design director Peter Horbury disclosed that using a hard-top for the Volvo C70 instead of a soft-top presents a great styling advantage. He quipped that when the roof is deployed, the new Volvo C70 looks like a purpose-built coupé. Thanks to its compact three-piece roof design, the size of the folded roof stack has been minimized, resulting to improved convertible style and packaging.
The redesigned front end of the new Volvo C70 is inspired by the S60 Concept unveiled in 2009, making it similarly styled with the carmaker’s larger cars. For instance, the new Volvo C70 features redesigned front wings, thereby giving the nose a more unique wedge-shape. Its front end is also gifted with new headlamps with more pronounced upward orientation, as well as fog lamps and lower grille with further details.
In addition, the front end of the new C70 sports an open "V" formed by the bonnet and grille. The front end is also marked by an enlarged iron mark, the new larger air intakes and a dramatic Flamenco Red Pearl. Meanwhile, the new C70 also features a shoulder line swinging up towards the rear, which while providing an impression of dynamism, also offers a stronger sense of security for rear passengers.
Just like on the front end, the rear section of the C70 features a dynamic and bold design marked by high-tech LED lamps similar to those on the XC60. Interestingly, Volvo has integrated the entire lamp unit with the oval framing its rear panel. Overall, the design of the new Volvo C70 could be called openly aggressive – it is rather clean and simple with classic Scandinavian cues. It also sports a low stance.
