The 2015 Touareg Facelift and the Golf R 400 Concept are not they only vehicles that Volkswagen will bring at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, as the German carmaker is also planning to bring its New Midsize Coupe Concept. With a height of 1,422 mm and a width of 1,838 mm, the New Midsize Coupe Concept is 1.2 inches lower than the 2015 Jetta, but also 2.3 inches wider.
The new concept car has a low visual centre of gravity, short overhangs, muscular shoulders and side sections, a dynamic roof line with markedly swept-back C-pillars, a long bonnet and a short boot lid. According to the press release, the new concept is almost a vehicle of the Passat class and we will not be surprised when we will see the 2015 Passat B8 this autumn wearing the design lines seen on this concept.
Still, the concept car is 4,595 mm long, which means shorter than a Passat or even than the Jetta. This new concept car was designed by the team led by Volkswagen’s head designer Klaus Bischoff and with a possible production version, the German carmaker aims to take on compact saloons.
Under the hood, the new concept car will use a 2.0-liter TSI engine that generates 220 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and to a top speed of 152 mph or 244 km/h.
Power is transmitted to the front 20-inch wheels wrapped in 245/40 tires through the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. More details to be revealed when the vehicle will be officially introduced at Auto China 2014.
