The BMW brand posted an increase in U.S. luxury automotive sales during the month of September, with deliveries climbing 19 percent on continued high demand for the X3 SUV, which arrived in U.S. showrooms in January. This puts BMW AG on the lead in the U.S. luxury automotive sales race. Specifically, sales of the revamped X3 increased to 1,853 in last month from 146 units in the same month last year.
This increase contributed to the SUV's almost four-fold rise to 19,167 so far this year. Industry analyst Jesse Toprak at TrueCar.com, a website that tracks auto sales, commented that the model was "well received," and that it was one of the "better executed redesigns" seen in the luxury segment in a long while.
BMW enhanced the handling and interior of the X3. It has done well by offering monthly lease deals for as low as $459 in September, Toprak said. Moreover, BMW brand deliveries increased to 21,750 in September as the U.S. sales of Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz rose 9 percent to 21,649. Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus experienced a drop of 12 percent in sales to 14,995 last month.
Toyota has been the leader for the past 11 years when it comes to U.S. luxury sales. With the results in September, BMW widened its lead for this year, with its sales 13 percent increase to 177,679.
Year- to-date deliveries for the Mercedes gained 6.5 percent to 170,058 in the U.S. while Lexus' totals dropped 16 percent to 135,647. The results exclude BMW's Mini brand, which aren't luxury vehicles, and Daimler's Sprinter vans and Smart cars.
The new BMW X3 has a design that speaks of agility, ruggedness and elegance. It features the forward leaning BMW kidney grille and the big headlight assembly giving it a powerful looking front. The hood has six contour lines that flow down to converge at the kidney grille, helping give the X3 a daring look. Dual round headlights and the round fog lamps altogether form a triangle, a familiar element of the BMW SAV design. The upper portion of the headlamp assembly has chrome trimmings, helping it look more focused. The trademark “Corona Rings” are lit as it does dual function as daytime running lights. You can opt to add the Xenon headlights.
From the side, the BMW X3 still makes use of the signature design features of the BMW X series but with the same one of a kind interpretation that you see for the front. You have flared wheel arches and short overhangs to underline the strong character of a SAV from the German automaker. The sporty appearance of the side profile is further strengthened by three characteristic lines: the upper contour line that is typical for BMW cars and a pair of subtle lines that is seen just above the wheel arches.
The rear of the BMW X3 is dominated by horizontal lines, giving the X3 a robust character. Expressively modeled surfaces and well-defined lines help create shadow and light effects. The taillamps that are located further out have a unique T-shape that is also a BMW X3 signature. The addition of the LED light bars also help the BMW X3 have that signature night-time design.
The New BMW X3 is half an inch taller, 3.36 inches longer, and 1.1 inches wider than its predecessor. It also has a higher ground clearance that is half an inch more than the previous models. The X3 uses a wheelbase that measures 110.6 inches, which is 0.6 inch longer than the previous one.
