The latest project from Scagliarini Motorsports is dubbed the Scagliarini 504 Coupe Zagato Elaborata, a project that has got design company Zagato fuming mad. A few days ago, Scagliarini Motorsports said that a customer from the UAE has asked it to build its take on the FIAT 500 Coupe Zagato.
Zagato now denies that it is involved in the project in any way and that it intends to undertake several legal actions to protect its individual property.
Zagato’s Communication Manager Alvise-Marco Seno released a statement, saying that Zagato doesn’t have an official relationship with Scagliarini.
Seno also claims that Zagato wasn’t contacted about this project and that no commercial initiatives were taken. Zagato asserted that it has not released an approval for this project; hence, Scagliarini should not be using the Fiat 500 Zagato’s Intellectual Property. It also shouldn’t be making use of Zagato’s name and logo.
Zagato added that no production tooling has been used to design the mentioned Scagliarini model. Scagliarini quickly released its own statement. Michael Salvarani, Managing Director of Scagliarini Motorsports, said that it has yet to receive an official communication from Zagato Milano or their counsel and so it will consider the statements on the reports to be fabricated and to not come from the company.
He said that the Scagliarini 504 Coupe Zagato Elaborata is “nothing more than an interpretation of the FIAT 500 Coupe Zagato by Zagato Milano.” He explained that Scagliarini isn’t saying that it owns the design and that it doesn’t intend to usurp Zagato Milano’s design or its “beautiful heritage.”
