More good news comes to BAIC as the Chinese manufacturer bidding for Opel/Vauxhall has boosted its first-half 2009 profits in its home market by 78 percent. Playing a huge part in its success were joint ventures with Hyundai and Daimler, and the Chinese scrappage incentive scheme.
BAIC enjoyed a 28 percent increase in its year-on-year first-half sales. The best-selling car in China was the Hyundai Elantra Yuedong. Sales in BAIC‚ joint venture with Hyundai rose 56 percent to 257,003 units. GM is expected to do really well in China; year-on-year sales are expected to increase by more than 20 percent, according to GM China chief Kevin Wale.
