Barack Obama names Ford CEO Mulally to group on boosting exports

President Barack Obama has appointed 18 executives to join an advisory group that aims to increase US exports. Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally is included in this group. In a statement, Obama said that boosting these exports strengthens, as well as supports millions of good, high-paying American jobs. The Export Council was created earlier this year by Obama. He set out a goal to double US exports within five years. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack revealed that agricultural exports rose by 19% during the first quarter. Obama is slated to give a report about the progress on boosting US exports.
He is also expected to discuss the 18 trade missions coordinated by the Department of Commerce, loans from the US Export-Import Bank that have supported nearly 110,000 jobs, and new agreements on exports of US agricultural products.
Obama is also expected to name members to the export council to join Boeing Co. CEO James McNerney and Xerox Corp. CEO Ursula Burns, who were chosen last March to lead the group. The White House disclosed that the appointees to the council are the following: Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger; United Parcel Service Inc. CEO Scott Davis; MetLife Inc. CEO Robert Henrikson; Pfizer Inc. CEO Jeffrey Kindler; Verizon Communications Inc. CEO Ivan Seidenberg; Archer Daniels Midland Co. CEO Patricia Woertz; and UAL Corp. CEO Glenn Tilton. [via bloomberg]
