Belgian foam maker Recticel to cut jobs due to a demand made by Daimler

To meet demands from Daimler AG, Belgian foam maker Recticel said earlier this week that it had to cut 110 jobs at its plant in Wetteren, Belgium, and move some of its production to Germany. Under a contract that expires at the end of 2010, Recticel produces components for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class at three plants, including Wetteren. The company said that the customer has demanded that this model‚ revisions will have to be sourced from a single site in Germany as of 2011. This led to the ceasing of the production of foam interiors for cars at the plant in Wetteren, near the northern city of Ghent. Another factor that resulted to the job cuts at the plant was the lower volumes of flexible foams.. The plant currently employs 653 workers. Recticel employed 11,388 workers at the end of September, 1,633 of them in Belgium.
