Bentley and Audi are collaborating in the design of a new V8 powerplant, according to a report by whatcar. This engine will be placed in the facelifted Continental GT sometime in late 2011. This upcoming engine will also be featured on certain go-fast Audi vehicles. It’s likely to become the preferred engine for future RS vehicles. The V8 unit, which will have a capacity of 4 liters, is expected to offer a high level of efficiency.
This engine will enable these two brands to reduce their average range CO2 emissions. The unit reduces the CO2 emissions level by 40%, compared to the W12 engine that the Continental GT uses. When used in the Bentley vehicle, the engine will distribute its power to the road through a 40:60 rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
Each brand provides a special character to its engine version. What this indicates is that Bentley’s engine will provide a substantial mid-range torque. According to a source, Brian Gush, Bentley’s director of chassis and powertrain, had said that the engine is being adapted to its purposes so that it is able to deliver Bentley driving characteristics.
