Bentley’s Power on Ice adventure will be tested next month in Finland on one of the most unusual and difficult test tracks in the world. This is the same track where Bentley broke two ice speed driving records with the four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen. What Bentley is now offering guests is the chance to have fun in driving the 6.0 litre 567bhp (575PS) Continental GT Coupe and the 621bhp (630PS) ultra high performance Continental Supersports coupe. Peter Barnes a senior instructor with Bentley Driving, said that the circuits are not like anything seen before as they are built from snow and ice.
Barnes explained that Power on Ice combines the joy of “slaloming a Bentley supercar on a purpose-built course or taking a spin around a ‘figure of eight’ track” with the chance to learn advanced techniques from a personal instructor. He added that after this, drivers will be able to confidently handle their cars even under the worst weather conditions. Bentley’s Continental range is perfect for winter driving as it comes with the most sophisticated all-wheel drive system that uses an advanced Torsen differential, guaranteeing a safe but dynamic sports car handling on types of road surfaces and weather conditions.
The all-wheel drive system has a power split of 40:60 rear bias for sporting handling and spirited mid-corner acceleration. But the power split can be adjusted instantly between the front and rear wheels depending on the available grip. The sophisticated Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system offers added security and grip whatever the driving style. In February 2011, Finnish motorsport legend Juha Kankkunen, set a record while driving the all-wheel drive Continental Supersports Convertible on the frozen Baltic Sea. He reached a speed of 205.48 mph (330.695 km/h). This broke his own ice speed record of 199.83 mph (321.6 km/h) while he was driving the original Continental GT in 2007.
