Bentley will return to the Le Mans 24-Hour race

Bentley EXP Speed 8

Remember the days when Bentley and its Exp Speed 8 won the Le Mans 24-Hour race? Well, it appears that those days will be back as Bentley recruited the man who designed the 1999 Le Mans 24 Hour-winning BMW in order to get it back into motorsport. Bentley hired Graham Humphrys, who designed the BMW V12 LMR at Williams Motorsport, in order to be a consultant. Humphrys will work with John Wickham, who was team director at Bentley 10 years ago. Moreover, Bentley chassis and powertrain director Brian Gush is also on the team. As you can see, Bentley is building a dream team, but this won’t be enough to take on cars such as the Toyota TS030 Hybrid and the Audi R18 e-Tron Quattro. Sources suggest that Humphrys is evaluating a return in the GT3 with a Supersports version of the latest Continental GT. Gush told the reporters last year that he wants to return to the prototype ranks, but the complexity of the 2014 Le Mans rule book discouraged him. Bentley boss Wolfgang Dürheimer, also said that he wants Bentley to return in the GT ranks. Wolfgang Dürheimer also raised the idea of selling race cars to customers. More details to be revealed.
