Bmw 316d ES sedan makes its debut in the U.K.

The latest offering from Bmw is the 316d ES sedan which is considered as the most efficient 3-Series with carbon dioxide emission of only 118g/km (9g/km more than the second generation Toyota Prius) while fuel consumption is rated at 52.3mpg combined, enough to beat the latest Prius. Acceleration rate is 0-62mph (100km/h) in 10.9 seconds and maximum speed attained is 135mph (201km/h).

Power under the hood is a small 116hp (85kW), 192ft-lb (260Nm) 1,995cc four-pot diesel that is equipped with EfficientDynamics techniques and technologies, plus a six-speed manual gearbox.

Except for these features the 316d is identically specified to the 318d ES sedan. In the UK, prices bottom at 23,300 Pounds, and since BMW has already announced that they will not include more expensive technologies like turbocharging and diesel on entry-level four cylinder products, the car won't be available in the US for a while.
