BMW ActiveHybrid X6 coming to the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show

For greater driving pleasure combined with enhanced fuel efficiency and CO2 management, BMW is offering its ActiveHybrid technology. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 boasts of having improved driving dynamics and a 20% reduction in fuel consumption compared to a vehicle powered by a combustion engine alone.

It has a drive system that consists of a 400 hp twin-turbocharged, High Precision Direct Injection, V8 gasoline engine and two electric synchronous motors delivering 91 hp and 86 hp, respectively. The car has recorded a maximum system output of 480 hp, and peak torque of 575 lb-ft. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 has precisely controlled interaction of the three power units and this optimizes the overall efficiency of the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 at all speeds. Continued after the jump!

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is able to go from zero to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 130 mph.

In the EU test cycle, the car’s average fuel consumption improved by roughly 20%. It has a CO2 emission rating of 231 grams per kilometer.

EPA ratings are expected to be released as the market introduction nears. Of course, BMW’s first hybrid model can run exclusively on electric power and can go up to as fast as 37 mph (60 km/h), with the combustion engine activating automatically whenever required.

BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system distributes the power between the front and rear axles.
