Intel Corp. will be providing microprocessor chips to German carmakers BMW AG and Mercedes-Benz for the information and entertainment systems in their automobiles starting in 2012. In an interview with Reuters, Intel's head of German operations Hannes Schwaderer said that German producers of televisions and settop boxes would also soon implement the new generation of Atom-chips, which are designed for use in netbooks and mobile devices. Schwaderer revealed that in 2009, the company got no revenue from it but that it will start to change in 2010. By all indications, Intel's classic business with chips for personal computers and servers will continue to dominate in the immediate future. [via autonews - sub. required]
