The BMW Group has revealed the latest advancement in phone-driven car-technology, with the support of Apple's new iPod Out functionality in iOS 4. Music information from the iPod Touch and iPhone 3G/3GS/4 can be pulled out by the BMW ConnectedDrive and MINIConnected technology that equip future BMW and MINI vehicles. The car's display then shows a simplified iPod-like menu. Its features include custom playlists and Genius playlists, among others. The problem is that BMW has yet to confirm if current BMW vehicles can update to the technology. What we know now is that the iPod Out function needs a "new BMW Group interface technology" that will be featured in future cars. This is definitely a technology that will be welcomed by those who complain about having to use the proprietary car-based systems or are forced to use the iPhone/iPod itself to control their music on the road. No release dates have been disclosed by the BMW with regards to this new interface with iPod Out support.
