Bmw builds its first E60 M5 CSL

We will not have any Bmw M3 CSL, Z4 M or 5-Series GT M! But, here is a E60 M5 CSL! According to the Autocar magazine, Bmw built this special lightweight one-off version of the E60 M5 as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations for its sedan. The new car is described by by M division's head of development, Albert Biermann, as "the M5 CSL we never built" and features a new V10 engine that has been enlarged with a longer stroke taking its capacity up to 5.5-litres which this makes it the largest engine ever featured on an official M vehicle. Also, the M5 features a carbonfibre manifold boasting a increased capacity air box and a secondary oil cooler for an additional air duct in the place usually dedicated to the license plate.
Bmw did not reveal any official numbers regarding the power of the car but Albert Biermann, says that it develops around 580 hp and close to 400lb ft. In order to make the car lighter, Bmw installed a carbonfibre roof and claims that the car lost 50 kg from the standard M5's 1830 kg kerb weight.
The interior was also stripped down: two carbon fiber sport buckets have now been installed while the rear seat has been ditched altogether. Regarding the suspension, it appears that this remains close to the standard specification. Although many of you might like this car it will not be produced! "Right now we're concentrating on the next-generation M5. This car has been fun to develop but there are no plans for production," said Biermann.
