Bmw considering a “shooting brake” version for its 1-Series

Even though Bmw lately brought its 1-Series to the US, only the coupe and convertible body styles were available to American customers. However, on the other side the ocean Bmw makes available the 1-Series in 3- and 5-door hatchbacks in addition to those that are available in the US markets mentioned above. That range appears to be growing to five models as Bmw is reportedly thinking about one more 1-Series derivative. According to Bmw's product development head, Klaus Draeger, the German carmaker is thinking about a 'shooting brake' variant of the 1-Series.
The shooting brake would be identical in concept to the 3-door 1-Series, but would adopt the flowing lines and low-positioned roof of a two-door coupe. AutoBild reports that according to Draeger the 1-Series shooting brake would be a 'lifestyle' vehicle for Bmw, and would carry on the automaker's manufacture theme of niche vehicles. Having said that, the the shooting brake has not yet received a production go signal, but appears to have a reasonably good shot of being manufactured when the next 1-Series becomes available on the markets late in 2011.
Bmw execs would only put a stop on the shooting brake if it was thought to be too close in rivalry to the firm's Mini Cooper. Even though the hatch versions of the 1-Series are presently set aside for the European market, Bmw would possibly sell the shooting brake in the US. No 'M' model is considered but the next 1-Series ought to offer a new dual-clutch gearbox and a new series of 4 and 6-cylinder powerplants. If the 1-Series shooting brake finally gets the go signal, it will be displayed in American Bmw display rooms as soon as the beginning months of 2012.
