Bmw continues the development of the Z10 sports car

It seems that Bmw is preparing a new offensive on the sports car segment with the development of the new Z10. If we listen to the latest reports, it appears that the new mid-engine sports car will carry a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight six engine capable to deliver around 450 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque (according to our sources this engine will actually be an improved version of the one found on the current Bmw M3) and connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Regarding the technical part, the Z10 will adopt an aluminium and carbon-fiber structure, magnesium chassis pars and a new hybrid system with an integrated AC motor/generator and lithium-ion batteries. An interesting system is the "thermal-management system improves efficiency by preheating lubricants with exhaust gas and by restricting internal airflow". The aerodynamic part will be improved using various undercar spoilers and air deflectors that are actively controlled. The new car will also offer more interior room, comparing it with the Porsche 911, for example while the weight will be around 3300 pounds. The new Bmw Z10 will make its debut before 2014 and will be priced in the $110,000 range. [via automobilemag]
