BMW denied a newspaper report that it will produce cars at Mitsubishi's NedCar site in the Netherlands. According to local daily Dagblad De Limburger, Mini and BMW-branded vehicles would be built at the NedCar site as early as 2014. According to the paper, Dutch bus maker VDL Groep and Mitsubishi are holding talks to produce cars for the BMW Group at the site, adding that the parties were close to reaching an agreement. The daily further reported that the site was visited by BMW managers, who were not inclined in acquiring the plant but expressed interests in having VDL build cars for them. A BMW spokesman told Automotive News Europe that the report was a ''speculation.” Mitsubishi announced in February that it plans to end production of its Mitsubishi Colt subcompact and Outlander SUV models at the plant in Born by the end of the year. After the announcement, speculations arose that that BMW was interested in taking over the site as well as its 1,500 employees to produce the Mini brand. BMW also denied the rumors back then. BMW is currently producing the Mini at its Oxford site in England and by Magna Steyr in Austria.
