Back from a two-year hiatus, the BMW M5 Sedan and M6 Coupe have gone on sale in the U.S. last week. This time, they offer more luxury and more power while also being more efficient and athletic. They’re offered alongside the all-new BMW M6 Convertible which got to the US BMW Center showrooms last month. For over 25 years, the BMW M5 and M6 have epitomized the true BMW’s luxury and daily versatility combined with an outstanding supercar performance. The M5 and M6 are ultra-high-performance sports cars with tremendous dynamic abilities that M engineers had meticulously tuned on racetracks worldwide under all conditions. At the same time, the M5 and M6 set new standards for everyday driving comfort and features.
To attain these targets, the new BMW M5 Sedan, M6 Coupe, and M6 Convertible share the most potent engine ever used in a series-produced model from BMW M GmbH partnered to a high-torque 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT). The power transfer between the rear wheels is split even further by an innovative Active M Differential.
When combined with extensive chassis and suspension upgrades, the drivetrain ensures that the engine's performance can be shifted to the ground. The new engine used by both the BMW M5 and M6 delivers the highest output ever produced by a BMW M car. It also gives the most efficient balance between performance and fuel consumption. It is distinguished by the instant throttle response, a linear power band and an uncommonly high and flat torque curve. The new engine delivers about 10% higher output than the V10 engine of its predecessors and torque is increased by more than 30%. Its efficiency is also better by almost 25%.
