The BMW X3 xDrive28i is where the new TwinPower Turbo 4–cylinder engine makes its first appearance. This comes after the launch of the N20 engine launched in the Z4, 528i. This new-generation turbocharged engine was built using the dynamic overall theme of BMW Sports Activity Vehicles. To achieve an outstanding performance, the engine provides a lot of power, responsive acceleration, torque and low weight. Driving pleasure is attained with this new 4-cylinder engine as it offers a significant boost in power. It also offers lower fuel consumption (preliminary) than its predecessor.
The most advanced 2.0-liter engine signifies a comeback to BMW's origins. The creation of these lightweight, high-performance 4-cylinder engines is similar to the debut of the BMW 3 Series Sports Sedan in 1975. The new BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder's displacement of 1,997 cc offers a maximum power of 240 hp / (180 kW) at 5,000 rpm. But due to twin-scroll turbocharging, the maximum torque of 260 lb-ft is had developed at only 1,250 rpm and continues to be constant up to 4,800 rpm. With these statistics, there’s sure to be a dynamic performance from the BMW X3 xDrive28i, which could accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in only 6.5 seconds (preliminary) on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph.
The engine instantly reacts when the driver wants more throttle and the dynamic and nearly linear power delivery from only slightly above idle could continue all the way into the higher rpm range. It is set for an April 2012 production as a 2013 model with delivery to US BMW Centers in May together with the continuing BMW X3 xDrive35i. These two have an MSRP of $37,995 and $43,595 respectively, including $895 of destination and handling charges.
