BMW AG intends to increase production capacity at its plant in Rosslyn, South Africa, to 45% to 87,000 units. For this goal, BMW is investing 2.2 billion rand ($288 million). This development came after the company signed a letter of commitment with the South African Department of Trade and Industry. In a statement, BMW South Africa Managing Director Bodo Donauer, said that the BMW Group continues to make decisions for the future in spite of the current economic downturn. In South Africa, total new vehicle sales dropped 19.5% year-on-year in September as the country faces its first recession in almost two decades, says Autonews. The Rosslyn factory produces the BMW 3-Series, 75% of which is exported to countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.
