BMW planning to share platforms with PSA Peugeot for its Mini small car

Mini John Cooper WorksBMW is rumored to be in initial talks with PSA Peugeot Citroen with regards to a proposal to share small car platforms for future Mini variants, according to a Financial Times report in the UK.

Since the two companies already share the range of small four-cylinder engines powering the Mini line, an expanded collaborate effort does not seem to be farfetched. Adding credence to rumors are statements from both BMW chief Norbert Reithofer and PSA head Philippe Varin that they are willing to work together. So far, the two have met twice since May. Meanwhile, BMW is reportedly working with Fiat on a shared platform for something even smaller than the regular-grade Mini, possibly as part of its long-rumored Isetta revival.
