Bmw reveals new voice activated control system

The German carmaker BMW will be launching this September its new voice activated control system that will provide users hands-free control over the information-entertainment and navigation tools of their vehicles. BMW claims that there is no system like this yet where users will only need one voice command to transmit completely his destination into the navigation system of the car. All the driver has to do is to speak out the address and the system will immediately provide the directions to get there without the tedious step-by-step procedure used before. The request is quickly processed by the onboard computer. Furthermore, the user can also call out verbal commands to select different sources of audio, including the search for a particular music or song.
The new system allows the user to state an album, artist, title of the song, or even a whole genre thereby limiting the scope of the music the users can listen to. At present, only the audio that has been included on an onboard hard drive will be searchable, but by next year even the user's MP3 player will be searchable also. The voice control system is available in different languages also, enabling the user to search across a broad variety of artists.
The system can handle requests for Dutch, Spanish and German songs. The latest voice control system of BMW is an improvement over the system they released in 2006 which involved a step-by-step walk through process which tended to be slower than when manually done. The new voice control system enables the driver to manage destination and infotainment without having to remove his eyes from the road. It has not been clarified if the system can be retrofitted in previous models, but it will be available in a host of European countries and in the US.
