The BMW i lineup of electric cars that starts selling in 2013 can be purchased online. You can still go to dealerships to buy the car but BMW now offers the option to complete the sale without ever entering the showroom. BMW’s i3, the first model to go on sale, is likely to be priced at about $40,000 and predicted to sell about the same number on its first year. The advantages of buying online are that first, the process is easier since potential clients can have in-home access and second, there is a standardized buying experience because the retailers will have to offer the models using the same prices, according to BMW board member Ian Robertson. BMW i will be using new technologies that aren’t in use in mass marketed cars such as a carbon fiber reinforced plastic passenger cell. [source: AutoGuide]
