Bmw working on a new system which stops safely in an emergency

Inspired by health-related car accidents, BMW is working on a new system that will enable the car to come to a full stop at the side of the road in cases of health-related emergencies where the driver loses control of the vehicle. The new system is called the Emergency Stop Assistant and is currently in the testing phase. The system is presently intended for highways and streets that are similar to highways to keep a limit on the variations of driving situations, which can reach infinite proportions. The system functions by activating an autonomous driving mode when it detects that the driver is in a serious medical condition. It will then put into effect a controlled emergency stop to put the car into a full stop but also does so with consideration of existing traffic around the vehicle. While the system is doing this it also sends out an emergency signal complete with data needed to set off the required medical and traffic-related assistance procedures. The Emergency Stop Assistant works in tandem with existing safety elements like Lane Departure and Blind Spot warning systems to maneuver the car and avoid hitting other vehicles. The release date for the system is not yet currently available.
