US sales of the BMW Group (BMW and MINI) increased by 9% to 21,111 vehicles, compared to the same month in 2009. The year-to-date statistics indicate that the two marques were able to sell a total of 76,162 units, a figure that can be translated into a 7.9% growth when put against the sales volume registered in the first four months of 2009. Last month, the BMW brand recorded a 10% sales increase, with sales of 17,268 vehicles. Meanwhile, the year to date sales figures present an 8.8% expansion to 63,591 units. Jim O'Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC, said that April's positive results are an triumph, especially with the two high volume models being in short supply because of the end of their lifecycles. O'Donnell also said that both the X3 and 5 Series are in transition. He also expressed excitement for the new 5, which has gotten superb early reviews, to go on sale in June. Dealerships will start getting the all-new X3 at the end of this year. O'Donnell said that the company expects a strong demand for this new entry in the hot premium smaller crossover segment. He said further that MINI was able to sell 3,843 units last month, posting a 5.1% sales increase. Year to date, MINI posted a 3.3% sales growth to 12,571 units.
