To prosper in the long term, car parts manufacturer Bosch will have to close its South Wales plant resulting to the loss of about 900 jobs. Stefan Asenkerschbaumer, president of the Bosch starter motors division, said that structural adjustment is necessary.
He cited that the “long-term commercial future of the whole division is at serious risk.” Bosch will shift the work at the Cardiff plant to Hungary from 2011. Asenkerschbaumer expressed his regret that no other solution could be bound for the Cardiff plant, where he had served as plant manager. He said that he knows first-hand the dedication and commitment of the employees here and so he considers this as “one of the toughest decisions in [his] career.”
