Bosch to resume full production in Japan by September

Peter Marks, head of Robert Bosch GmbH’s North American unit, said that full production in Japan is scheduled to resume in September. Marks said that the output of the German auto supplier declined by less than 50% after the March 11 Japan disaster; however, he declined to provide details. Bosch has 36 facilities in Japan, including research sites, factories, and sales offices. Bosch has about 8,000 employees throughout Japan.
Marks said that its production schedule was affected by the shutdowns of its customers. He said that Bosch will not bear any material impact and that this problem will be “very temporary.” In 2010, Bosch posted revenue of 47.3 billion euros ($68.6 billion). Of this figure, 59% came from the autos. Bosch became profitable once again last year after being in the red in 2009, which was its first annual loss in its history spanning 125 years.
Bosch sales in the Asia increased by 43% to 11 billion euros, making up about 23% of 2010 sales. Meanwhile, Bosch's auto unit sales in North America increased by 24% to $5.6 billion due to the increase in capacity of its facotyr and as vehicle production recovered. Bosch didn’t specify but it stated that sales in 2011 may go up by less than 10%. Total auto-unit sales had increased by 29% to 28.1 billion euros. Notably, Toyota Motor Corp. said that worldwide production isn’t expected to be restored until the fourth quarter. Bosch manufactures washers and dryers, power tools and packaging machinery, among other products.
