The Brabus GLK Widestar is an interpretation of the German SUV as on-road machine capable to manage the agility of the sports cars with the the high levels of refinement associated with Mercedes vehicles. That doesn't signify that the Brabus GLK is a tamed lion among the SEMA stars. It is anything but tame! One glance is all it takes to capture the tough posture of the Widestar bodyshell, which has been expanded by 50 mm, including attractively integrated flared wheel arches that carry through to the front of the vehicle with special air intake fins. Specialized front and rear bumpers, LED daytime running lights, side skirts, a roof spoiler with LED position lights and all-new LED lighting units above the front windshield complete the modified bodyshell. A special paint process adds an unequaled depth of shine to the black paint finish. It was an interesting challenge, comments Ulrich Gauffr, Head of Research and Development at BRABUS, to bring even more fascination to the already distinctive GLK. Our Widestar underscores the characteristic edge of the original GLK-Class design. The flared wheel arches houses 21 inch wheels clothed in 295/30 ZR 21 tires.
Along with the BRABUS chassis kit that reduces ride height by 30 mm, and a high-performance brake system, the Widestar illustrates the true highway potential of the GLK-Class. The required propulsion is generated by a modified V6 diesel engine patterned on the 320 BlueTEC unit with innovative AdBlue technology from other versions presently available in the USA. Through the ECOPowerXtra tuning kit, the Widestar engine produces 190 kW/258 hp and provides 610 Nm of torque. All of this add up to produce remarkable performance statistics. The acceleration from 0-100 km/h is reached in 6.9 seconds and the Widestar reaches a ceiling speed of 240 km/h.
In spite the improved performance, the Widestar remains safely within the most severe emissions standards set in Europe (EU5) and in the U.S. (BIN 5 / ULEV). At an average fuel consumption of 8.4 litres per 100 km (NEDC), it is also extremely efficient. The totally modified interior of the BRABUS GLK Widestar commemorates the ultimate in automotive interior design. Art experts at the BRABUS workshop have clothes the cabin with a total of 50 square meters of gentle, semi-aniline leather. The lavish all-leather trim also incorporates diagonal stitching on the seating, door panels and the entire vehicle floor which are all in cognac. To keep glare away from the windshield and side windows, the upper surfaces of the dashboard and door panels are finished in black leather. The alcantara upholstery of the roof lining is also finished in black, with ebony black wood trim, an athletic steering wheel and aluminum sports pedals completing the total impact of the interior. Mounted on the back of the front seats are a DVD and seven-inch monitors for rear passengers entertainment.
