Breaking News: Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 back on track

The supercharged 500-plus horsepower Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 just can't be written off that easily. In the past, plans for the extra-high-performance Camaro have been removed from the table due to cost-cutting measures. But now the Z/28 is again set for production, according to Ed Welburn, GM's Vice President for global design. The modified body is done but the powertrain still requires some calibration work. It will take one year before the Z/28 production car arrives.
So far, we know that the basic engine is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, which is also used in the Cadillac CTS-V. In that application, the engine makes 556-horsepower and is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Continued after the jump! It highly possible that the Z/28 would be offered with both transmissions and the power would most likely still be high.
A specific body kit with a slightly raised hood comes with the vehicle to accommodate the top-mounted intercooler/supercharger unit and a tall rear spoiler. Also expected to be included in the package are a specific wheel design and suspension tune. It's possible that wider rear rubber would be required as well.
