Brian Sweeney becomes the 3rd leader of Buick-GMC in the past month

2010 GMC Sierra DenaliBrian Sweeney has been named as the new general sales manager of Buick-GMC by General Motors Co. Sweeney was pulled in to replace Michael Richards, who unexpectedly left the post last week after only eight days.

Making the announcement was Susan Docherty, vice president of sales and marketing, at a recent press event in Detroit. At the same event, Sweeney discussed three initial goals. He said that he wants to deliver some year-over-year sales gains here, particular in December. He also said that he will concentrate on a launch for the Buick Regal next year and retaining Pontiac owners as that brand is phased out. Sweeney said that the year has been tough for businesses but that he is optimistic about the outcome. Sweeney’s more than 20 years at GM include posts at Saab, Cadillac and Chevrolet. Docherty shared that his achievements at Buick-GMC include consolidating the work of more than 13 advertising agencies with one ad partner. As GM emerged from bankruptcy, it was Sweeney that was named as the division’s general sales manager in July. Previously, Richards had reported to Mark LaNeve, vice president of U.S. sales.
