It’s possible that the Veyron successor that Bugatti is working on is a hybrid. For sure, the successor will be quicker and lighter. It would most probably carry the Veyron badge again. Jens Schulenburg, Bugatti’s chief vehicle engineer, said that what they’re developing is the “next super-sports car.” The next Bugatti is likely to be the 1,000bhp-plus four-door Galibier, which was seen as a concept in 2009. It may go on sale in 2014 to go with the end of the production run of the current Veyron. The successor will stay as the flagship and it will debut the most advanced technology and materials available. Schulenburg told Auto Express that the next car will have to be much lighter and so, the company is studying several technologies. One example is the use of wheels that are purely carbon fiber. He admitted that a hybrid is another possibility. Since the current model weighs two tons, it would be easy to make use of batteries and motors, as well as an engine, which would have to do better than the 1,183bhp of the current engine. It’s expected that this car will exceed the 268mph top speed of the 2010 Veyron Super Sport.
