Bugatti working on a faster and lighter Veyron with a top speed of 270 mph

According to the latest reports from AutoExpress, it appears that a faster and lighter Bugatti is on its way, as parent company Volkswagen green lighted this project. An insider reveaed the fact that the upcoming car could take its inspiration from a design proposal for the original Veyron, designed by Walter de’Silva, current head of VW Group design, in 1999. The bad news is that the concept was never publicly displayed, and it was beaten by Hartmut Warkuss’ 18/4 Veyron Concept from the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show.
The bold lines of the concept could be resurrected now by de’Silva, which is currently in charge of VW’s design direction. Some of the similarities of the two concepts include blacked-out A-pillars, a floating roof which curves from the side air intakes, and one-piece rear light assemblies.
Regarding the engine, the new car is expected to carry the same quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine mated to a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox. Still, the engine is expected to be more fuel efficient and more powerful. The latest version of this engine is found on the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and delivers 1200 hp (882 kW) and a maximum torque of 1,500 Nm of torque and it is capable to push the car to a a limited top speed of 415 km/h (in order to protect the tyres). The new car is expected to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.5 seconds and will have a top speed of 270 mph or 434 km/h.
