Buick Business MPV Concept makes its debut in Shanghai

Buick Business MPV Concept

Although luxury brands are not always treated with respect in its home market, Buick has been positively welcomed in China as a rival to Lexus and other established luxury brands. Taking its cue on this popularity, GM has removed the wraps on the first of several vehicles it intends to develop and produce in China in the future. The Buick Business is the first transport designed and engineered singly by the Pan Asian Technical Automotive (PATAC) of General Motors. The MPV was intended to target China's upper class and it comes with the signature grill of Buick as well as fender vents and a distinctive multi-paneled glass roof and overgenerous lightwork.

Strongly defined fender wells are filled with enormous twenty-inch wheels; making the MPV unmistakably Buick. The 5.3 meter vehicle can accommodate 6 occupants, transform into a mobile boardroom, equipped with sliding tables and seats that rotate to face each other. A B-pillar-less side, which is revealed by electric sliding door, offers convenient access in and out of the vehicle.

An array of touch-sensitive gauges is within the driver's reach, including external mirror displays for OnStar elements. Power under the hood for the Business MPV is a 2.4 liter direct-injection 4-cylinder unit supported by an electric power unit. Battery charging is assisted by regenerative braking and fuel economy is enhanced by stop-start technology. Shifting is handled by a 6-speed automatic transmission.
