Buick preparing hybrid version of LaCrosse

After being introduced last January at the Detroit Auto Show, the new 2010 Buick LaCrosse has captured the interest of the buying public. To add to the appeal of its striking design and total makeup, GM revealed that they will make this model available with a new Ecotec 2.4L direct-injection four-cylinder aside from the 3.0L and 3.6L V6. GM's global vehicle line executive James Frederico mentioned to Ward's Auto that a Hybrid La Crosse will be coming out in the future but no exact date has been given yet.
"We are always working on future applications for our hybrids," he said. "The exact introduction plans (will) be announced later by Buick marketing." There is speculation that GM's next generation BAS + mild hybrid system will be introduced with the new LaCrosse hybrid because of this announcement in the wake of GM's cancellation of its mild Malibu hybrid.
he mild hybrid model had dismal sales record and the GM management is yet to show strong sales for the new LaCrosse hybrid considering that both models had the same chassis components and were from the same manufacturing facility. However, GM contends that there is future for alternative propulsion for midsize vehicles. That is the reason why by year 2012, 14 hybrid models will be in the market.
