8 Very Fast Cars That Make You Believe That Looks Can Be Deceiving

Article by Christian Andrei, on May 17, 2016

They say “do not judge a book by its cover”. Cliché as it may sound but the saying holds true to a few vehicles that some have considered “boring”. These cars may not be as bad ass as some Ferrari or Porsche models but they boast of power that is pretty good for a “boring car”.

Even when self-driving cars and electronic vehicles are slowly creeping in the market, there’s nothing like a good ol’ sedan that can take us to places in just a matter of minutes. So here we list eight of the fastest cars that are impressively faster than you’d expect it to be.

8. Buick Regal GS

In eighth place on our list is the Buick Regal GS. Buick has been keeping its flame alive with this sport sedan. The Regal GS has 259 horsepower that is capable of launching the sedan from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds.

All of these complement Buick’s world-class handling even without having a world record. It just makes the sporty Regal GS sedan an even livelier commute.

7. Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe

The 7th spot comes from Honda’s coupe battalion. The Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe is powered with an optional 3.5-liter V6 engine that is capable of producing 278 horsepower and 251 lb.-ft. torque. This sporty mid-size coupe can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6.0 seconds.

6. Rolls-Royce Phantom

On 6th place is a car that looks at home on the royal fleet: the Rolls-Royce Phantom. This 19-foot, 5,800 pound car would be more comparable to a Georgian mansion than a speed demon. However, looks can be very deceiving as the Phantom is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds thanks to its 6.75-liter turbocharged V12 engine.

5. Kia K900

Making a big splash in our list, all the way from Korea is the Kia K900. On fifth place, the K900 was built on the idea of a formal flagship sedan which is full-sized on a rear-wheel drive and that packs a big V8 engine under its hood. It boasts of 420 horsepower and can sprint from 0 to 60 in a matter of 5.5 seconds.

4. Acura RLX SH-AWD

Entering our list on the 4th spot is the understated and quiet Acura RLX SH-AWD. This mid-size CTS/E-Class/5 Series fighter in the Sport Hybrid trim is the quickest Acura ever (until the new NSX hits showrooms).

With a V6 engine and two electric motors, the RLX is given 377 horsepower that is enough to take it from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. It might not be as popular as the Porsche 911, but the RLX is one of the fastest cars of this generation.

3. Mercedes-AMG GL63

In on our top three is Mercedes Benz’s three-row SUV – the GL63 AMG. In place of the standard 3.0-liter V6, the GL63 AMG is powered by a hand-built 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 that is capable of producing 577 horsepower and is enough to take it from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds. There might be cars that are far more practical than the $124,000 GL63 AMG but it would pale in comparison to this beast’s power.

2. BMW X6M

The BMW X6M is probably one of the ugliest cars you ever did see. But once again, looks don’t matter as long as you got some 567 horsepower. The X6M is another bad ass creation from Mercedes’ M-division engineers.

Even with a sloping roofline and a tall-awkward ride height, the X6M can roast its competitors as it speeds up from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds flat. It may not be a beauty, but it sure is a beast.

1. Tesla Model S

And the fastest of them all comes from Tesla’s arsenal of electric cars. The 2-plus ton electric seven-seater Tesla Model S P90D is powered by two electric motors that can produce 791 horsepower.

With the Ludicrous Speed option, the P90D can run from 0 to 60 in only 2.8 seconds. Furthermore, even if the Model S is in its base 70D, the car can still go from 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds, which is still pretty fast.
