Craigslist ad of $1.59 million Porsche 918 Spyder seems too good to be true

Craigslist is the home to anything and everything. Literally. It’s a website devoted to all kinds of advertisements from job postings, to housings and home essentials, and even the constant search for Mr. Right. It’s a jumble of related and sometimes unrelated postings and some bizarre advertisements but that’s the whole point why Craigslist came to be.

Craigslist has become a modern treasure hunting site and we’ll bet you half a treasure chest this will be the most frequented site for the modern Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbosa. There are a lot of hidden treasures in Craigslist if you just look hard enough.

It might be the most unusual site to find hidden treasures from that perfect bedside lamp you’ve always been looking for to the man of your dreams. It is also the haven for those who are looking for secondhand vehicles offered with the best deals. More so, it is also the place to get the sweetest deals on newly released cars.

Once in a blue moon, a few sought-after vehicles make their appearances on Craigslist. In the past few weeks, there have been sightings of the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 powered McLaren 675LT, as well as a Lexus LFA and a Carrera GT. The website is slowly growing into an online community of car enthusiasts, buyers and sellers. But the one thing that has caught our attention is the post from a dealership called Empire Exotic Motors.

The Texas based car dealer has recently posted a Porsche 918 Spyder for sale. Yes, you read that right. You would probably think that Craigslist is the least likely website to be graced by one of the most reputable hypercars throughout history. In fact, it’s known as one of the members of the hypercar holy trinity. Let’s assess what this Craigslist ad has in store for us.

The 918 Spyder is a 2015 model that has only a 789-mile reading on its odometer. It is listed for $1.59 million which is not bad a price for this prized possession.

Photos of the hypercar have also been posted. Unfortunately, these look like someone just came and shot the car randomly using bad angles and low resolution. Nevertheless, the car looks clean and decent enough.

Compared to the McLaren 675LT that we have mentioned earlier, the Porsche 918 Spyder is a hybrid packed with a 4.6-liter V8 engine and two electric motors. These engines give the 918 Spyder a combined 887 horsepower and 944 lb.-ft. of torque. A 0 to 60 mph run would only come in just 2.5 seconds and top speed is recorded to be at 214 mph.

The 918 Spyder would definitely be one of the best deals granting you have some extra dollars sitting cold and lonely. With one member of the hypercar holy trinity within reach, it’s not a long shot to hope for the other two to take the spotlight on Craigslist. In case you don’t know, we’re talking about the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

We’re all aware that Craigslist has become a favourite go-to site but everyone must also take extra caution when dealing with people especially with valuable items such as the Porsche 918. There are still scammers lurking from within Craigslist waiting for victims. It helps if you also research about the seller, which in cases of dealerships is an easy thing to do because most of them have websites, phone numbers and addresses that you can always check.

Just make sure you don’t fall for traps when purchasing products online. Keep your guard up even when you’re too excited to hit that “Buy It Now” option on the Porsche 918 Spyder. Caution will always be your best friend, always remember that. And don’t forget to let us know when you come across sightings of a Ferrari LaFerrari or a McLaren P1, alright?
