McLaren P1 Crashes on Chinese Highway

Article by Andrew Christian, on May 5, 2016

A gray McLaren P1 crashed at a highway near Hangzhou City in China. The right-rear and the left-front parts of the vehicle were severely damaged. A Chinese Buick LaCrosse was also hit.

According to observations, the McLaren P1 hit the Buick LaCrosse, which explains the left-front damage. The former then steered away, damaging the right-rear. However, details of the accident and its cause are still unclear. On a positive note, the driver is safe.

This recent tragedy is another addition to the long list of supercar accidents in China, which has led many to conclude that the country is barely ready for high-powered supercars.

In 2015, a LaFerrari also crashed in the Asian country driven by a Chinese teenager. He almost completely wrecked one out of the 499 models made worldwide.

Looking at the pictures of the crashed McLaren P1, the vehicle seems like a total write-off. However, some enthusiasts believe that it can still be restored with McLaren’s prowess. Although, of course, we all know that fixing it to run again will definitely cost a huge amount of money.

This is not the first car crash that a McLaren P1 has been involved in. In 2014, a 27-year-old drove a McLaren P1 into ruins in the US. Worse is that he only had it for less than 24 hours. It was as if he just threw millions of dollars away. Earlier this year, photos of a crashed McLaren P1 also went viral online.

According to speculations, it was a result of an accident in Washington, DC. It is highly recommended for these millionaire car enthusiasts to just build their own supercar tracks where they can run at top speed instead of risking their lives in busy highways. After all, highways are not the best idea for supercars when the drivers are not careful or highly skilled.

About McLaren P1

The McLaren P1, which can be considered a limited edition with only 375 models available worldwide, costs as much as $2.02 million. The exorbitant price is justified by the car’s hybrid drivetrain with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that delivers 727 hp and a torque of 719 Nm.

This is paired with an electric motor that yields another 176 hp and 260 Nm of torque, bringing the total power output to 903 hp and a torque of 978 Nm. The supercar boasts a top speed of 349 km/h and a zero to 100km/h acceleration figure that is achieved in just 2.8 seconds.
