Cadillac is exploring options to make a larger XTS sedan, according to Don Butler, vice president of marketing for the company. Being a full-sized sedan, the XTS has a trunk that could carry four sets of golf clubs, while backseat passengers cross their legs without fear of injury. But Cadillac is already considering making a grander XTS. Butler said since the company has the volume segments covered with the compact ATS, midsize CTS, fullsize XTS and SRX crossover, the move would be “to add a new halo car with more substance.” The XTS sedan is currently powered by a 3.6L 300-hp V-6 engine, and Butler downplayed the possibility of fitting a V-8 into the car, which could turn it into an “XTS-V super potent version.”
He, however, said that Cadillac could add a turbo to the V-6 as part of the power enhancements for the full-sized sedan. Cadillac has created a “V” version for CTS vehicles and is planning to create an ATS-V potent car version.
The “V” version is only open to Cadillac’s performance vehicles. Butler, however, emphasized that unlike the CTS and ATS vehicles, the XTS is not performance car, so “no’ to a V version.” Mark Reuss, president-GM North America, told WardsAuto late last year that GM was considering a Cadillac vehicle that could compete in the high-end luxury-car segment.
