Cadillac has released renderings of a concept car that will debut at an auto show in 2013 as it hopes to get back some of its old appeal. Clay Dean, Cadillac director of advanced design, said that with this car, the automaker attempts to “reflect back not for nostalgia” but for what its greatness was about during that time. The concept hints at the brand’s future direction of combining American glamour with technology. These renderings were revealed for a short time during a media gathering last Thursday. He declined to confirm whether the concept car suggested that the proposed flagship rear-drive sedan intended to go up against the BMW 7 series and Mercedes-Benz S class. When Mark Reuss, General Motors' president for North America, was interviewed by Automotive News last May, he said that a new flagship is on the table as GM outlines its go-global strategy for Cadillac. In the Detroit area, GM has 15 total design studios and another in North Hollywood, Calif. Dean said that of this number, seven (which includes the one in North Hollywood) are handling Cadillac projects as the brand creates 10 new or revived products for the next three years.
