A source revealed that Cadillac’s new flagship model will resemble the Cien concept, which was first seen at the Detroit Auto Show in 2002, according to a report from Car and Driver. The source said that an all-new platform will be used on the two-seater Cadillac and it will likely share a mid-engine architecture with the rumored C8 Corvette. Car and Driver said that to justify the costs to produce this model, it will have to be priced at least $150,000.
The Cadillac Cien Concept was powered by a 7.5 L V12 Northstar XV12 engine, which delivered 750 hp. This experimental engine featured direct injection and Displacement on Demand, which enabled the engine to run on only six cylinders under light load.
General Motors' Advanced Design Studio in England designed the Cien whose sleek style was inspired by the lines of the F-22 Raptor. On the other hand, Cadillac may choose a large sedan, code-named “UP” (Über Premium? Ultra Pretentious? Urethane Protected?) to be its flagship and to rival Audi’s A8, BMW 7-series, and the Mercedes-Benz S-class. This product is expected to be positioned above the upcoming XTS in the range. A decision is expected by the middle of this year.
