Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept
On display at the Detroit Auto Show is an all-wheel-drive Cadillac plug-in concept - the XTS Platinum - that is seen to influence its upcoming flagship sedan. The concept has touch screens on the instrument panel and rear-seat entertainment connections. In a statement, Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac's general manager, said that this concept is envisioned as an "automotive personal headquarters, using advanced technology to enable new levels of connectivity and luxury."
Cadillac's DTS and STS sedans are expected to be replaced with the XTS by the 2012 model year. However, it remains unsure if the name will be kept. The new flagship will share a vehicle platform with the 2010 Buick LaCrosse but is about 6 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the LaCrosse. Rather than traditional gauges and screens, the concept's interior uses organic light-emitting diode displays. In an effort to minimize buttons and switches, the designers used touch screens blended into the instrument panel, which appears black until the car is running. Connectivity and infotainment features can be accessed by the passengers in the back seat as well.
For the interior, there are layers of cream, tan and brown that include laser-etched suede on the center console and door trim. The car rides on 20-inch wheels with custom-made Bridgestone tires. A small rear spoiler mounted on the trunk lid incorporates a centered brake light. Powering the XTS Platinum is a 3.6-liter, V-6 direct-injection engine. The car can run on the electric motor, gasoline engine or both. Recharging can be completed in five hours. This Cadillac concept has been given the ultraluxury Platinum Edition distinction, which has also been attached to certain Escalade, STS and DTS models.
