Camaro squashed Mustang in August 2010 sales

As you may know already, the Ford Mustang outsold rival Chevrolet Camaro in July by only the units, but it appears that August was a bad month for FoMoCo as the Camaro squashed the Mustang: 6,321 units compared to 5,570. And this is not all, as more significant is calendar year to date, with 60,000 Camaro sales compared to 53,000 Mustang sales. "Car shoppers continue to be excited about the Camaro, which has now been on the market over a year. As a result, Camaro has taken the lead in the segment with virtually no incentives," said spokesman Monte Doran. The bad news for Ford is that the Camaro currently has no convertible versions, as this will be introduced next year, which means that the sales are set to increase significantly when the new version will be introduced. Still, Ford’s Mustang received two new engines for the 2011 model year, and analysts are expecting to help it gain some customers. "Camaro is currently only available as a coupe. We expect sales to grow when the convertible is introduced early next year," Doran says. [via DriveOn]
