2011 Vw Passat Estate
The Volkswagen Passat Estate has been honored as the Top Towcar of the Year 2011 in the annual Readers' Poll of CaravanTimes, the biggest online caravan magazine in the United Kingdom. The vehicle comes on top when the readers of the magazine were asked to select from among five top towcars. The poll is UK's only caravan award that is voted for by the public, which means that the award represents a real seal of approval from the caravanning community.
Editor Chris Jefferies at CaravanTimes.co.uk commented that for their forum members, Volkswagen is popular as a practical, economical and reliable choice. He added that the Passat Estate "beat off strong competition" this year and that many of these vehicles are expected to be in campsites throughout the UK next year.
All in all, Volkswagen has scooped a total of three Towcar of the Year awards this year. In June 2011, the Passat Estate TDI 170 PS triumphed at the Towcar Awards, which are judged by experts from Practical Caravan and What Car? magazines and The Camping and Caravanning Club. It also won the weight category. Meanwhile, the Golf achieved a class win. In September, the Jetta was champion at The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards 2012, winning the Overall Towcar of the Year title as well as in its price category. The Touareg also claimed two awards.
